  • ISEP released the proposal paper concerning the “Need for Review of the Framework for Nuclear Energy Policy (October 2005).  This paper is a summary developed by the Nuclear Energy Policy Roundtable 2010 concerning what should be reviewed in the current nuclear energy policy.

  • The Delih International Renewable Energy Conference (DIEC 2010) took place from 27-29 October 2010, in New Delhi, India.  It was the 4th IREC conference since the “renewables2004” in Bonn, Beijing 2005 and Washington 2008, and it continues to be the highest level political conference series dedicated to renewable energy policy worldwide.   • The Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century (REN21) released the Renewables 2010 Global Status Report (GSR2010), the fifth in annual series.  It is a unique overview of the status of renewable energy worldwide, covering markets, investment, industries, policies, and rural (off-grid) renewable energy in developing countries.

  • Japan Renewable Energy Policy Platform (JREPP) published the Renewables Japan Status Report 2010.  This report deserves commemoration as the first Renewable Energy White Paper to be published in Japan. (The summary of the report in English).

  • REN21 and ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability announced the launch of the Local Renewable Web Portal – the gateway to information on generating and using renewable energy at the local level. ISEP joined this portal site as a partner.

  • IRENA’s Preparatory Commission was held in Egypt and the Signatories designated Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, as the interim headquarters.At the same time it was decided that Bonn will host IRENA’s centre of technology and innovation and that in Vienna the Agency’s liaison office for cooperation with other organizations active in the field of renewables will be established.
  • 129 countries have already signed and it will become effective next year.
  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan also signed on June 29th.Japanese government is planning to lead the global standard of environment technology in the next generation and support Japanese industries relating to gas, oil, and electric power.It will provide 400~500 million yen while the total IRENA’s annual budget is expected around 25 billion yen.

  • REN21, ISEP, ICLEI published “Global Status Report on Local Renewable Energy Policies” as working draft on 12, June 2009. This report complements the REN21 Renewables Global Status Report by providing more detailed informations at the city and local levels about policies and activities to promote renewable energy.

The symposium will sum up the achievements and limitations of the G8 Summit held in Japan this year and discuss the roles of governments, businesses and NGOs for Copenhagen COP15 and Nagoya COP10.

This report provides a blueprint of how to apply existing technologies to halve global CO2 emissions by 2050, whilst allowing for an increase in energy consumption, and ISEP has supported the project by providing analysis of the prospect of renewal energy in Japan.

  • The Tokyo Metropolitan Government issued its Renewable Energy Strategy on Monday, April 3, 2006. The strategy presents the target from the middle-long term perspective in line with other advaned nations and regions in the world as well as its underlying directions of policy and measures to expand use of renewable energy. Tetsunari Iida, ISEP’s Executive Director has participated in the development of the strategy as a Committee Member.
